Lara Bracey

Primary Schools Engagement Coordinator

Hi, my name is Lara and I am a Schools Engagement Coordinator for Primary Futures. On a day-to-day basis I support Primary Schools across the country to invite volunteers into their school to interact with their children. This can be done through interactive assemblies, speed networking activities or careers fairs… to name a few!

I have previously worked with disadvantaged young people in London. Through this, I have seen first-hand how today’s youth often lack the belief that they can achieve what they set out to due to a lack of relatable role models. When I tell people that I support career-related learning in Primary schools I often get asked “Primary children… that’s a bit young isn’t it!”. I love working for a charity that embeds this confidence and ambition from an early age, no matter their ethnicity, gender or socio-economic background.

My job is especially rewarding when teachers share their stories with me. They will regularly tell me how much their children enjoyed the activities, how engaged they were with the range of volunteers that came into their school and even the funny ways in which the children interacted with the volunteers. My personal favourite- asking a volunteer “is your favourite colour aqua?”!

I feel like not many people realise Primary Futures is free to use as many times as you want, we are on hand to support you when you need it and it is a brilliant way of exposing your children to the hugely diverse world of work.

I look forward to hearing you shout about your activities at #InspiringtheFuture
